Original Medicare Part A and Part B do not cover burial or funeral expenses.

If you were enrolled in an MSA plan, funeral expenses can’t be paid for using funds from a Medical Savings Account plan. Funeral expenses are also not covered by Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement plans.

If your family member or loved one was a Medicare beneficiary, you’ll need to report the death to Medicare. You can do so by contacting Social Security Monday through Friday, from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Your beneficiaries could use money from a Medicare Medical Savings Account or Social Security survivors benefits in some circumstances to help pay for a funeral.
